Bookish buys #1: I may lack self-control.

It started in December. I was perusing the shelves at Target, as one does. All of a sudden, I see it! A super cute canvas book tote that reads: "Have your shelf a merry little Christmas." I. could. not. resist.
Now, it's mid-January. Again, I found myself at Target. And lo and behold, on an end cap facing the main aisle, is a Valentine's Day display for made especially for book lovers. Hanging on that end cap there is yet ANOTHER super cute canvas book tote. This one says: "I only have my shelf to blame." I mean, come on! I know that Target knows that they hit the marketing nail on the head when it comes to appealing to my fellow bookishly inclined folks. But does it end there? No, no my friends it does not. On that same beautiful display there is a candle. Not only does this candle smell divine, but it also has "all you need is love & books," on it in a perfectly selected pink, script font.
For me, reading is more than a hobby; it's a lifestyle. And, for better or worse, it has become my whole personality. Okay, maybe not my whole personality, but being bookish has become a significant part of my personality. So when I see book-related merchandise, it brings me joy. It makes me feel seen. Also, while I shop for my next book, having an appropriately decorated book bag makes the experience that much more enjoyable. And when I immerse myself in fantasy worlds, there's nothing like a sweet smelling candle to really set the mood for a cozy night curled up with a soft blanket and a book.
For the record, I do not condone frivolously spending on bookish things for the sake of feeling justified in calling yourself a bookish person; this is a "do as I say, not as I do," scenario. Being bookish is more than having bookish things. But if you have made a responsible financial decision to invest into something that allows you to put your bookishness out on display for the world to see, then I think you should do it. Actually, I should probably take that "responsible financial decision" part to heart more often. Because, if I haven't already made it clear, I have limited self-control when it comes to bookish things.
Have you made any fun bookish purchases lately? Share them! And maybe also share where you found them, for reference...
Until next time, stay bookish,
Kim
